DAY 1: ARRIVO A CUNEO
Arrival in Cuneo e accomodation. Lunch and visit of the city center. Cuneo takes its name from its shape: in Italian “Cuneo” means Wedge. It’s delimitated by two rivers: Gesso and Stura. This town has a troubled history. Until the 19th century the heart of the town was Via Roma, contained in mighty walls. When the Napoleon troops arrived, the walls has been destroyed and the new town developed. You will have the possibility to admire the beautiful noble palaces ‘facades in Via Roma and to walk over Piazza Galimberti. This square was named to Tancredi “Duccio” Galimberti, who took a speech from his balcony on the 26 July 1943 to invite people to rebel to the Nazi invasion: in this way many group of partisans were created in the valleys around Cuneo. Dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 2: CUNEO – GRANA VALLEY – MAIRA VALLEY – CUNEO
Breakfast and departure to Castelmagno. The Grana Valley is a little valley closed between Stura and Maira valleys. Meeting with a local naturalistic tour guide, who’s going to tell you the history and show you the cultural and artistic heritage of that place. Visit of the ethnographic museum in Colletto and of the Bottega Occitana in Campomolino, where you will have the chance to see the traditional products. We carry on with the San Magno sanctuary. The sanctuary is situated at 1760 meter over the sea level. Lunch in Grana Valley. In the afternoon departure to Elva, a little pearl of Maira Valley. This municipality is situated 1637m on the sea level. Here you will visit the parish church. You will be fascinated by the cycle of frescos attributed to a painter of the late gothic culture and to “Maestro di Elva”, Hans Clemer, a Flemish painter. Other two important elements are the wooden Crucifix (XV-XVI century) and the stone baptismal font (XV century) engraved by the siblings Zebreri of San Damiano Macra. Return and overnight stay.
DAY 3: SALUZZO AND RETOURN JOURNEY
Breakfast and departure to Saluzzo. This town is a real pearl of Cuneo district. Saluzzo looks like a village on the hill during the 13th century: narrow roads, churches, noble palaces with their own garden characterize the city center. The town is always watched over by the King of Stone: The Monviso. You have the possibility to visit the town, most of all the old part of it. Lunch and departure.
