Turin is considered to be the capital of the Liberty style, the Italian version of an architectural, artistic and decorative epic known by various names in the rest of the world: Art Nouveau in France, Modern Style in America, Jugendstil in Germany, Modernism in Spain.
If on the one hand the Liberty flourishes through the large bourgeois commissions concentrated in the hillside of Torino and in the famous Cit Turin, on the other hand this style has given a wider freedom of expression to its creative and innovative power even in the small bourgeois residences of San Salvario, where the great masters of the city architecture of the late ‘1800 and early’ 1900, were able to give free rein to their imagination, generating an endless collection of decorative installations that underlie a rich, curious and unique anecdotal bucket mantled with legends and symbolism .
Among monsters, gentlemen and prostitutes, our guided tour through the Liberty style of the district of San Salvario will disclose a side of Turin that is still well preserved and hidden from the eyes of the most and will reveal what lies behind every grim face, every lamp and every curious decoration that populates the facades of the historic palaces overlooking the narrow streets of this singular urban area, once infamous and now the heart of the most animated nightlife of the capital of Savoy.
